Good strong turnout for the masters championship road race and the weather held out to boot. The race was too short and not hilly enough for my liking so decided to race hard from the gun and hope to avoid a bunch sprint at the end. Made all the breaks. The third break stuck on the end of the second lap when Jeff Kompa and I got away and were soon joined by Dan Lach and Derek Wiford. Fortunately about 6 mile from finish dropped Dan and Derek but was outsprinted at the end by Jeff. Good race and glad to see some other BRCR out there (Mitch, Dane and Corey). |

I was extra nervous before this one as it was my first Cat 1/2/3 race after upgrading, and I was not fully recovered from last week's Tour of the Valley. The race was not super fast, but the attacks were more intense than what I'm used to in the Cat 4/5 races. By the last lap, the lead group was down to 15 guys, and my goal was to hang onto a wheel long enough to be part of the field sprint. My quads were cramping through a couple attacks on the last lap, but I managed to hang with the group and finish approx. in the middle of the bunch sprint. |
